Making your worksheet…

Sheet code: –

Type the code printed on a sheet to get the same sheet back, with its answers.

How it works

  1. Choose the step: hours, half hours, quarter hours, 5 minutes or 1 minute.
  2. Choose the task: read the clock, draw the hands, or a mix of both.
  3. Print 6, 9 or 12 clocks per page. The answer key shows the times and the hands.

One step at a time

Children usually learn the hours first, then half past, then quarter past and quarter to, then five-minute steps. Each setting on this page matches one of those steps.

The two hands

The short hand shows the hour and moves slowly between the numbers; the long hand shows the minutes. At 3:30 the hour hand is halfway between 3 and 4, exactly as on these clocks.

Questions and answers

Are the times written in 12-hour format?

Yes, as h:mm, for example 3:45. An analog clock cannot show whether it is morning or afternoon.

How many clocks fit on a page?

6, 9 or 12. Fewer clocks means bigger faces, which is easier for young children.
